Artistic residency of Nani $ ôka Groupe

May 2 to July 1, 2018 - L'Œil de Poisson / Quebec

For half a century, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Quebec have had a political will for cooperation and the sharing of skills in various fields, including that of culture. Since 2003, Zébra3 has been building a lasting relationship with Quebec and wishes to continue in this direction.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

Zébra3 in Bordeaux (France) and l' Oeil de Poisson in Quebec (Canada) have the common objective of supporting and promoting artists through assistance in the production and dissemination of contemporary works of art. In 2018, the two structures joined forces to co-produce an artistic exchange between Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Quebec, each welcoming an artist for a creative residency followed by an exhibition.

This artistic exchange aims to offer a new context of research and creation allowing artists to confront other cultural environments, enrich their practice, develop their careers and international connections.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

Following the call for projects launched at the end of 2017 with artists from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, L'Œil de Poisson selected Nani $ ôka Groupe.

exhibition from June 29 to July 29, 2018 - L'Œil de Poisson / Quebec
opening Friday June 29 at 6 p.m. + Performance at 7 p.m. - Meeting with the artists at 7:30 p.m.

Full screen ; a very very dark light

Punctuated by a sound and light environment, canvases, protean structures and plinths form an extraordinary place, probably fitted out to host particular rites. The spirituality of Homo Numéricus is at the heart of this large-scale installation in which obsolete technologies inhabit a serene space akin to a sanctuary. In order to take part in worship, manipulation of objects such as glasses and electronic remains is desirable. Anyone can, if they wish, submit these remains to the light, thus revealing the nature of the transformation carried out by the artists, as well as taking part in the ritual of water.

The group's wording combines two Japanese words that are common to hear in anime manga, namely Nani and Sôka. Like a music label, each member retains an independent artistic production. The collective form therefore asserts itself as a means of emulating and enriching their individual practices. For them, it constitutes a real political position allowing them to exist in an artistic context where, most of the time, competition wins to the detriment of cooperation. Moreover, this exhibition closes three months of research and creation carried out in the workshops of L'Œil de Poisson as part of a cross-residency in collaboration with Zébra3 (Bordeaux). This is the collective's first large-scale exhibition, the latter having so far had a mainly virtual existence.

Formed in 2016, Nani $ ôka Groupe is made up of three individuals. Seumboy Vrainom: € is a digital shaman apprentice who is dedicated to developing a spiritual approach to virtual space. As an apprentice alchemist, HV $ VH tries to transmute emotions and interactions between people using visual and sound waves. Finally, Loris Gasmaran describes himself as an apprentice geomancer. Drawing on mathematics and the history of forms, he strives to bring out from the ground various three-dimensional artefacts. Together, these artists create events that tend to break down the border between art and the public.

The artists would like to thank Justine Shivay, Julie Teule, Emilie Rochette, as well as Zébra3 and the entire L'Œil de Poisson team.
