Fichtre - The American Night , Peri-urban Refuge # 7 - 2015

Production & project management - Tertre de Panoramis, Bassens

Creation of the peri-urban refuge # 7 La Nuit Américaine , a work / refuge designed by the collective of Nantes architects Fichtre as part of the artistic project of Periurban Refuges .

Eight steps descending to the hillside and offering, in the end, whether you are sitting or lying down, a "cinemascope" view through a large bay window ... The clean shapes and discretion characterize a 7th peri-urban refuge which prefers to see that of being seen. But there are things to see in the extraordinary environment of Panoramis Park in Bassens! Just below the belvedere offering one of the most beautiful views of the Metropolis over the Garonne, between pines, meadows and orchards, very close to wild orchids, La Nuit Américaine offers a hybrid landscape of city and nature. Its visual field covers the entire panorama, from the Aquitaine bridge in the south, to the silo of the port of Bassens in the north, with the new stadium as a central landmark.

Bordeaux Métropole owes this new Refuge to the Nantes collective Fichtre. His intention? Instill something of the magic of cinema into the familiar nature of a peri-urban space. It is there, in the framing, that the bay window operates. Around 8 meters wide, its windows are tinted blue and play with the impression of a night scene. “ We wanted to transcend reality and give it a dreamlike side. The bluish tone of the glasses plunges the viewer into the allegorical vision of the American night. This cinematographic process, giving its name to the refuge, also echoes the link that the town of Bassens maintained with the American presence at the beginning of the 20th century. "
